Moorpark College celebrated a win at their first home against Pierce College 7-4 in a non-conference game at the Moorpark College baseball field on Feb. 1.
The Brahmas took a commanding 4-2 lead in the top of the sixth inning but the Raiders came back to win the game 7-4 in the bottom of the seventh. The home team won by giving no runs to the visitor team by pitcher John Cini, who kept zeros on the board for the team to come back and win the game.
“He kept us there, he kept throwing those zeros on the score board,” said Head Coach Mario Porto. “We were able to come back and win the baseball game.”
Catcher Michael Teobaldi scored the first run for the Raiders in the fifth inning on Grant Bunker’s RBI out at first.
“It was nice to help the team out with that first run,” said Teobaldi, freshman. “It was good to score and when you score runs, you’re going to win games.”
Pierce batted around with four runs in the fifth and sixth innings but Moorpark took a lead in the bottom of the sixth to make the score 5-4.
With the bases loaded for the home team in the bottom of the seventh inning, Grant Bunker hits another RBI to bring in two runs for the Raiders bringing the score to 7-4.
“I thought it was a good game, even though we were down in the beginning,” said Bunker. “We did the things that we had to do to win the game, so overall I thought it was good.”
The Raiders weren’t hitting well in the beginning of the game. The first four or five innings the Raiders didn’t hit, according to Coach Porto.
“We didn’t make adjustments,” said Porto. “I would like to see us get off to a better start offensively, swinging the bats.”
With sophomore pitcher Cini not giving the Brahmas a chance to score, it gave the Raiders an opportunity to take the lead. The Raiders didn’t let this opportunity pass by, which gave them an ending score of 7-4.
“We won, which was pretty good,” said Cini. “I think this game went really well and I’m excited for our next game.”
The Raiders’ next home game will be Tuesday, Feb.13 at the Moorpark College baseball field playing against Bakersfield College. Check the CCCAA for in-depth statistics of the game.
