The Moorpark College dance department premiered their spring production of Motion Flux on April 19.
Opening night for this show drew lots of people. The dancers and faculty dedicated themselves throughout this semester to pull this off. This show is at the Moorpark College Performing Arts Building and is about 2 hours long.
This show had 12 dances with an intermission between the first half and second. The dances ranged from slow lyrical pieces to modern upbeat styles. Not only were the dancers from Moorpark College, but they invited Santa Barbara City College as guests to perform one of their pieces as well.
Audience member, Skyler Roche, a 20-year-old Psychology major, really loved this show and came to support a friend. She expressed that this show had a lot of variety and the show ran very smoothly.
“I absolutely loved the show,” said Roche. “All the dances were different in their own ways which made it interesting.”
Many of the pieces had a specific theme to their dance which touched many people’s hearts. One of the student choreographers, Rebecca Steiner, choreographed a piece called “Kindred Spirits.” A favorite piece from the show was Steiner’s and throughout the entire piece the dancers were resembling couples. One of the couples model Steiner and her dad throughout her life. The music choice of this piece fit the choreography of this dance very well and portrayed her idea perfectly.
The dancers were able to portray these emotions very well; the costumes and lighting added a lot to the pieces, too. Every dance had their own specific costume that matched the song choice.
In the first piece of the show called Oblivion, choreographed by Andy Carrillo, the dancers wore striped jumpers which were unique from the audience’s perspective, especially given the unique lighting. The lighting in this piece had tones of red and purple and some yellow which matched the colors of their costumes.
Motion Flux will run until Sunday, April 22. Don’t miss out on a good night of entertainment.
