Community individuals will be congregating at the Campus Center Conference Room (backside of dining room) this Thursday, January 24th. It will be the first event hosted by Actively Moving Forward, a grief support network for young adults and college students.
“Did you know that 1 in 3 college students lose someone in their life within the first years of college,” said Sharon Manakas, Health Center Coordinator.
The event will start at 12 p.m. Thursday, January 24, 2019. It will help students cope with the recent tragedies in Ventura County. Alongside this event, there will be Messages of Hope that will start at 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. to help build a community of support by writing motivational messages on Raider Walk. The event also aims to educate students on the process of grieving and their journey of healing.
“Grieving is a process. Everyone heals differently,” said Allison Baron, Health Educator at Moorpark College.
The national support network, Actively Moving Forward, builds a connection to grieving young adults by providing peer-led grief support groups. Through AMF, young adults are encouraged to participate in community activities in loving memory of those who have passed. Since the support group is expanding nationwide, there is optimism to build a chapter that can bring awareness about the needs of grieving here, at Moorpark College.
Ventura County is a community that has experienced much heartache in recent times, it is important to unite together and begin healing through Actively Moving Forward.
