The MakerSpace, Moorpark’s own high-tech art lab, is having a series of free do-it-yourself workshops over the next few weeks for students of all skill levels.

These workshops will include everything from button-making to vinyl-cutting and are meant to show students how useful and fascinating these new technologies can be.

Clare Sadnik, the workshop coordinator and head of the MakerSpace, spoke on the importance of hosting these workshops.

“We want to open up our doors to any and all students, so that they can take advantage of the MakerSpace and we can grow our community,” Sadnik said.

The first workshop is button-making, which is on Friday, January 25 in Campus Center, Room 144 from 1:30 – 3:00 p.m. Students will go through the process of making their own buttons, from printer to press.

The second workshop, vinyl-cutting, will be on Friday, February 1, also in the Campus Center and will be from 9 – 11:30 a. m. This will involve taking designs or pictures and turning them into personalized stickers for students to keep.

All of the materials are provided for these workshops.

“I hope we can attract more students of varying backgrounds and possibly collaborate with more departments,” Sadnik said, “because everyone in every kind of field can gain important skills from these workshops.”
