Election results for the 2019-2020 Associated Students of Moorpark College (ASMC) board members were released April 23, nearly a week after the district held the election.
The polls were opened to students through a pop-up on their VCCCD student portal. Due to an error in the data collection system, a re-vote was scheduled for Tuesday, April 23 for four positions: vice president, director of external affairs, director of public relations and director of student organizations.
Out of the 4,622 students that logged into their student portals during the election, 2,177 participated in the election. Moorpark College had the highest number of participants within the district. Oxnard College only had 1,158 votes in total. While Ventura College had 1,304 votes.
ASMC President-elect, Wyatt Endres, ran as part of the “Elevate” slate. A slate is a group of candidates that run together for multiple seats on a common platform. In this case, their platform was focused on improving the experience of Moorpark College students. All 10 members of Elevate won.
“After working in the [Associated Students] office as a student worker, I’ve slowly come to appreciate all the work the ASMC board does for the Moorpark community,” Endres said. “This sense of community is, in my opinion, the most important thing an individual has and if I can somehow help to improve that sense of community for the student population, then I would be very happy.”
