Getting to know Motion’s Flux choreographer David Lagunas
March 11, 2014
The young and talented David Lagunas is dancing toward his dream of becoming a professional dancer. Currently dancing at Moorpark College, Lagunas first founded his talent at Thousand Oaks High School.
It began as a way to avoid P.E. class in High School. Lagunas and his friends preferred dancing over running miles any day. With no dance experience at all, Lagunas was about to find out the talent he had hidden within him.
“Its just something he was destined to do in life,” said Josh Montalvon, a close friend of Lagunas.
The two became friends in high school when Lagunas joined the All Male Dance Team. Montalvon taught him the basics from hitting certain moves, to understanding the music.
“Being a dancer, we like to help each other become better and David has made such a huge improvement,” said Montalvon.
From not having any dance experience Lagunas has worked his way up to teaching others how to dance.Lagunas currently teaches at Aspire Dance Studio located in Thousand Oaks and is currently preparing a dance for the upcoming show “Motion Flux” at Moorpark College.
“David has a quality that very few dancers have; he has that special something,” said Alexia Liavas, owner of Aspire Dance studio.
For Lagunas, dance is his escape, safe place and a way for him to grow as a person.
“Anytime I dance I get a wholeness feeling, as if I’ve finally found the missing puzzle piece to complete who I am,” said Lagunas.
Being a dance major Lagunas’ ultimate goal is to be on “So You Think You Can Dance.” Auditions take place in March and Lagunas is planning to attend.
Until then, Lagunas is working on transferring to Chapman or Long Beach college to further expand his dance skills.
“Dance has been a mentor to shape the man I am today,” said Lagunas.
