In one way or another, the economy’s financial situation has affected each and every one of us. We are all forced to save our money and our holidays that we once looked forward to we now dread including Valentines Day.
For those of you who don’t refer to it as “Single Awareness Day,” finding a special gift for your significant other may seem difficult, when in fact, there are plenty ways of show someone you care about them without emptying your bank account. If a nice card or a simple gesture doesn’t seem enough for you there are alternatives.
For starters Valentines Day doesn’t have to be celebrated on any certain day. For most of us it is a day set aside for a couple to acknowledge one another in honor of the relationship. Who says it has to be February 14th? So if you can’t afford something, why not push back the holiday until you can afford exactly what you want to buy. If you tell your loved one that you would like to set another date to celebrate your companionship, chances are it won’t go unappreciated.
There is no need to spend hundreds of dollars on a meal that will come and go in an hour. Why not take the time and cook together, it will give you more time to interact with one another and save money while doing it. Justin Schure, a 19-year-old Moorpark student, who has had plenty of success on Valentines Day says that it is easy to create a romantic setting without spending too much money.
“I replaced the glaring white light bulb with a red one, it lit up the room perfectly and was very romantic,” Schure says.
When discussing what to buy one another, why not have a small budget? This way you are each forced to put time and effort into creating the perfect gift. Do something nice for your boyfriend/girlfriend. Try cleaning the house, or helping out with other simple chores.
Write a nice poem to your loved one, or a list of reasons why you love him/her and present it to them with a memorable picture of the two of you. Go to your local Walgreens, Target, or Dollar store for those last minute gifts that are guaranteed to make anybody smile.
You can buy dozens of premium fresh cut roses available for 19.99 or less at many local stores. Heart shaped premium boxed chocolates run for less than two dollars. Walgreens is also a great place for designer fragrances that are all ten dollars off already marked down prices!
The best gift you can give to someone is the gift of showing them you care. And nothing says that more than a personalized card. There is no need to purchase a prewritten card and envelope that contains the same message that someone else is sending to their loved one. Take the time to handwrite a card and tell him/her how much they mean to you.
