Finishing off last season in third place, the Raiders softball team is looking to bounce back this Spring and win a WSC Championship.
Head Coach David Fox who is coaching his second year at Moorpark College will lead the team. Assisting Fox will be Bridgette Overstreet who will serve as Assistant Coach. Both Fox and Overstreet have put together the roster for the 2013 season.
After seeing the Men’s Baseball team cut due to budgetary issues, the Women’s Softball team is hoping to have a successful season.
Some of the returning players this season will be Heaven Silveira (First Team All-WSC catcher last year), Marti Lewis (Second Team All-WSC pitcher last year), and Outfielder Natalie Noriega who are all returning from last year’s 3rd place team.
There are also some new recruits joining the team this season. The group of freshman include: Sarah Goulding a catcher from Simi Valley High School, Roxanne Lopez from Channel Islands High School, Michelle Cervantes a shortstop from Channel Islands High school and Hannah Brown a 2nd baseman from Simi Valley High School, and outfielder Brittany Reed from Simi Valley High School.
Head Coach David Fox mentioned some of the improvements the team has made in the offseason.
“We have a lot more speed and our power game is as strong as ever,” said Fox. “Our pitching and catching staff is far improved which will be really exciting to watch them hold the opponents threats to a minimum.”
Moorpark College Athletic Director Howard Davis spoke about what the upcoming season will bring.
“Fans can expect a very exciting and successful softball season this year,” said Davis. “Coach Fox and the student athletes have a goal of winning a WSC Championship.”
Though a schedule is not yet set, fans of Raider softball are encouraged to attend games in the spring and support their team as they look to make the season a successful one.
