A total of three cars were involved in a big injury accident in Parking Lot-A at Moorpark College Tuesday, Nov. 22.
The incident involved two moving cars and a defensless parked car.
A red Range Rover was backing out of its parking spot as a speeding Nissan Frontier was headed south and rear ended the Range Rover.
The Range Rover then jumped forward and hit the back right bumper of a parked Toyota Corolla. The owner of the Range Rover was injured in the accident and was immediately taken away to the nearest Emergency Room.
Immediately after the accident took place, Moorpark Police went to retrieve, Danielle Nagy, owner of the parked Corolla.
Nagy was in the middle of her statistics class when campus police interrupted the class and escorted her out of the classroom and to her car.
“My first thoughts were fear,” Nagy said. “I thought that something may have happened to a family member or something along those lines. When I then knew it was just that my car had been hit in the parking lot I was actually relieved. Still upset, but it could of been a lot worse.”
For a “parking lot” accident, there was a lot of damage done to the Nissan Frontier. Someone could argue that due to the obvious damage done to the Frontier, the driver must have been exceeding the speed limit in the parking lot. Lt. Escobedo and fellow officers were examining the scene, trying to determine how fast each car was going. Marking the asphault with chalk and discussing with eachother the “play-by-play” of the accident. The Moorpark Campus Police were determined to write the report and finalize logistics as quickly as possible.
“Things like this are reported like any other police report,” Escobedo said. “Only difference here is that there was an injury, its uncommon to see injuries in a parking lot accident. Either way, its all a process. Its our job to make sure its done with quickness and accuracy.”
Campus police advised that accidents like this are easy to avoid if students slow down and are really trying to crack down on students that are seen rolling through stop signs and speeding in parking lots.
If students see any reckless driving or has something to report on the Moorpark Campus call the Campus Police at 805-378-1455.
