Whether you have noticed or not, men’s fashion has been changing. It’s not just about the masculine male anymore. Men’s fashion is moving into a new era, with androgyny influencing a lot of what men wear today.
Men’s fashion has become a little forward at times, but I want to liberate the idea of what a man is expected to wear. There are several dominant style trends for the metro-sexual male, including fashion-forward, and casual, ready-to-wear.
One common ready-to-wear trend is the skinny jean. It wasn’t until the new millennium that skinny jeans were gaining popularity. The great thing about this style of clothing is that you can create a high or low look, with the jean as a common denominator. It’s all a matter of preference when it comes to skinny jeans because they range in their tightness. I happen to be a fan of skinny jeans because they offer the opportunity to show off your shoe. Plus, they give you more length.
The best way to create the metro look without looking too forward is to keep it simple. This provides the opportunity to create your look using accessories. Hats, ties, necklaces and watches are a great minimalist way to set the look.
If you’re a daring fashionista type of guy who likes to take risks, look for pieces that make a statement. “Little details” is what I like to call it; pieces of clothing that have unexpected details that make a statement. To create a daring look, try unexpected prints, such as floral tops. To contrast that, wear it with a blazer and cuffed dress pants. With this as your starting point, take your outfit even further with accessories and shoes, such as bow ties, strappy sandals, oxfords, boots and fedoras.
The idea for getting ready, whether it’s a high or low fashion look, is not necessarily for the outfit to match, but it just has to make sense. Whether you’re the casual, ready-to-wear guy, or the daring fashionista, have fun when you get dressed in the morning, because men’s fashion is more open to new ideas than ever.
