Moorpark College Transfer Center kicks off fall semester with its annual Transfer Day and Futures Fair, with representatives from colleges around the state and a seminar on jobs of the future.
Students will have an opportunity to meet with several universities during the day and speak with representatives who will provide information on transfer programs and requirements.
Judi Gould, Career and Major Exploration Counselor at MC, is excited to be able to bring this opportunity to students who are looking to transfer
“It’s the one time in the year you get face to face contact with the representatives.” said Gould.
Last year over 5,000 student contacts were made as reported by the universities and career transfer staff. This year, they plan to make an even bigger impact, with over 50 Colleges and Universities attending.
Gould hopes that this encourages students to ask questions and get familiar with the colleges they are interested in.
“Mostly they want to get to get a feel of what the campus is like,” said Gould. “I encourage students to ask their faculty members about their Alma Mater.”
In conjunction with Transfer Day and Futures Fair Tuesday it also is Alma Mater day. The faculty is encouraged to wear items from their Alma Mater and share stories about them with the students.
Taylor Abish a 19-year old communications major MC, plans to transfer to San Diego State and has many questions for the representatives.
“I am really curious about what the requirements are to get accepted, and what exactly you need to get in,” said Abish.
The main event will be held Sept. 20 from 10a.m to 1p.m. at the quad. The Futures Fair will feature a workshops and special guest speaker Nathalie Gosset MS, MBA, Head of Marketing and Business Development at USC’s Alfred Mann Institute she will be speaking in the Performing Arts Center at 1p.m.
Gosset will be speaking on “Jobs of the Future” talking about the hot careers that are on the horizon and how to get there.
The University of Southern California will also be giving a workshop on campus at 2:30 p.m. this event is by registration only and space is limited, you must register at the career transfer center. This will be the only opportunity to meet with USC representatives on campus this year.
Jonathan Foote President of Associated Students at MC wants this to ease the stress of applying to colleges and feels that it is easy if you use the opportunities that the campus offers
“The transfer process is quite easy especially if the students utilize the career transfer center and regularly meet with the transfer counselors to stay on top of their transfer eligibility requirements.”
