After 15 sold-out nights at the Kia Forum, Harry Styles officially completed his record-breaking Los Angeles residency last Sunday, with several Moorpark College students in attendance.

Over 18,000 “Harries” arrived at the venue adorned with colorful feather boas and cowboy hats, thrilled to celebrate the final night of the concert series in Inglewood, California on Jan. 29.

The night had been highly anticipated following the announcement that Styles would postpone the original concert dates of Nov. 5, 6 and 7 to late January due to an undisclosed illness.

“Until very recently I haven’t had to postpone a show due to illness in the 12 years I’ve been touring,” Styles wrote in an Instagram Story on Nov. 5, 2022. “I’m so sorry to do it, and if there was anyway I could do the show I would.”

Styles’ touring history extends back to his days as a renowned member of the globally successful boy band, One Direction. Regardless of his prior stardom, Styles’ unique artistry and loyal fanbase quickly made him a solo phenomenon. The dedication of “Harries” has truly grown into its own culture.

Sara Crawford, longtime “Harrie” and a second-year student at Moorpark College, discussed the unique atmosphere of Styles’ concerts.

“Harry shows are like a warm hug. You have the freedom to openly be yourself and feel loved and accepted,” Crawford said. “It’s an atmosphere unlike anything else because of how accepting, loving and supportive everyone is, which is a reflection of Harry himself.”

Crawford also offered a take on “Harry Culture” and what that means.

“‘Harry Culture’ in general is a celebration of people coming together to give and receive love and to create a safe space for everyone to be happy,” Crawford explained.

As early as a week before the concert, fans started to set up campsites on the bustling corner of Kareem Court. and Pincay Drive, just outside the venue. These fans endured heavy rain, wind and unsafe conditions for a chance to enter the general admission pit first.

With the streets becoming a temporary living space for fans, litter and unhealthy hygiene practices soon followed. As more and more fans began camping out prior to concerts, many venues instituted strict rules to prevent camping on the premises.

As stated on the Kia Forum’s General Admission Policy 2022, there is no overnight camping allowed on the Kia Forum property.

Melanie Medina, a second-year student at Moorpark College has been a passionate fan of Styles since 2010. Medina lined up at 6 a.m. to secure a spot close to the front in the general admission pit.

“I haven’t camped out before because I think, in a way, it’s ridiculous and unsafe,” Medina explained. “I had steered away from buying pit [tickets] for that reason, but then I ended up really wanting to experience it, so I lined up really early.”

Dana Lopez, an ”in-seat server” at the Kia Forum, offered a unique perspective on the impact of Styles’ shows on Inglewood residents.

“As someone who has worked at the Forum since early 2019, Harry’s residency has affected Inglewood neighborhoods incredibly,” Lopez said. “It has spiked congestion around the Forum, not just in traffic but also in trash and leftovers from people camping out.”

In some ways, Harry’s concerts have also benefited the area, according to Lopez.

“[The concerts] also brought in more business for local vendors and shops,” Lopez said. “Even though there are downsides living near big venues like the Forum and Sofi [Stadium], Harry’s shows created a fun and welcoming environment for the local residents and businesses. The local staff and vendors will surely miss the atmosphere his shows brought in thanks to his fans.”

After a thirty-minute set from indie rock band Wet Leg, Styles took the stage promptly at 9:00. The setlist included selections from his three studio albums, along with fan favorite tracks ‘What Makes You Beautiful’ and ‘Medicine.’

Wearing a bright pink and blue outfit embellished with sparkly fringe, Styles danced the night away. The crowd cheered endlessly for the singer and his energetic backing band.

After performing ‘Sign of the Times,’ the first song he released as a solo artist, Styles was honored with the raising of a commemorative banner for his 15 sold-out shows at the Kia Forum. Styles had a similar banner raised at Madison Square Garden following the same amount of shows at that venue, making Styles the first artist to sell out 15 shows at either location.
