Moorpark College President Dr. Pam Eddinger is a finalist for the presidential position at Bunker Hill Community College in Boston.
Eddinger has served as the president of Moorpark since 2008. She declined to comment about the Boston position.
“Let’s not worry about if I am leaving at the moment,” said Eddinger in an email. “We have lots of work to do in the next few months, and I would like to have our college focus on that.”
AJ Valenzuela, student trustee for VCCCD, said that he found out about Eddinger leaving from a tweet sent out by the Ventura County star.
“I was sad to hear such a valuable administrator would be leaving our district as soon as Moorpark College got reaffirmed accreditation,” said Valenzuela in an email.
Eddinger is one of the three college presidents in VCCCD who is leaving, or thinking about leaving.
Robin Calote, president of Ventura College, is set to retire in June after being at the college since 2005.
“While I have enjoyed my many years working as a community college faculty member and administrator, I am ready to move on to the next phase of my life and to enjoy the flexibility of time that retirement provides,” said Calote.
Valenzuela said that Calote’s retirement came as a surprise to him.
“She has been a part of our district for quite a while and granted me time to speak with her when I was a student just getting involved in student life,” said Valenzuela. “I will be glad to join her walking off the stage for Ventura College’s graduation one last time.”
Richard Duran, president of Oxnard College sine 2007, was a finalist for a position at Portland Community College in Portland, Oregon, but the position was given to another finalist, therefore he is not leaving.
“I enjoy serving [Oxnard College] and the community and will continue to do so,” said Duran.
VCCCD Chancellor Dr. Jamilla Moore was hired eight months ago and is now in charge of hiring new presidents.
