The Child Development Center opened up a series of events at Moorpark’s Multicultural Day to help develop the cognitive learning process of children.
According to CDC director Cynthia Sheaks-McGowan, the events were put in place to give children an opportunity to participate in fun events, all while learning new ideas and concepts in the process.
“I think [children’s programs] expand their experience,” she said. “It might not be something they normally do.”
Some of the 12 events held included “Global Humanity Through Yoga,” where certified yoga instructor Afi Kobari facilitated a kindergarten yoga workshop based on the techniques she learned while in India.
Another workshop entitled, “MyWorld: Three-Dimentional Storytelling,” an event led by Year of Service co-chair Kathryn Adams, invited kindergartners and first graders to participate in three-dimentional storytelling about their idea of a “good world” in which to live.
Children were also invited to work with photographer and art instructor Kathy LaForce and photography professor John Gray to take pictures with one another, among many other events geared toward children.
McGowan also believed that Multicultural Day gave the program another way for parents to spend time with their children.
“This [Multicultural Day] is a fabulous resource for our parents who might not always have the opportunity to participate,” she said.
