MC hosted the annual Transfer Day and Future’s Fair last Tuesday, engaging hundreds of students all eagerly waiting to speak with their favorite college representative.
Alex Murrietta, a 30-year-old Political Science major at Oxnard College viewed this as a great chance to make sure he was prepared for applying.
“I am here because I want to meet with the reps from the University of Hawaii Manoa, and UC Santa Cruz so I can get all my questions answered about transfer requirements,” said Murrietta.
Murrietta composed a few questions to ask the representatives before hand and knew this was a somewhere he can look at other colleges he had not thought of.
“This seems like a great opportunity to meet with the schools I really want to transfer to and really narrow down my search,” said Murrietta.
Every year MC invites a large number of college’s and universities to the school and students get an opportunity to meet with the school representatives face to face. With over 50 colleges and universities in attendance, students were able to get information about schools that they were not previously familiar with.
Judi Gould a transfer and career exploration counselor here at MC said this is a great time for students that don’t know where they want to transfer.
“Even if you are not particularly interested in that school, talk to them,” said Gould.
Jessica Crawford, an alumni representative for Woodbury University said that students looking for a school with a concentration on business and also with a small community.
“Woodbury has about 1500 total enrollment, and most students boast that they never have to wait list a class being that the class size is around 15,” said Crawford.
Transfer Day also intersected with Future’s Fair and Alma Matter day. To represent their Alma Matter most of faculty members were wearing shirts or buttons from their Alma Matter. Students were encouraged to ask questions regarding their faculty member’s Alma Matter.
The Future’s Fair kicked off with a round of funny improvisational skits moderated by MC’s John Loprieno, Theater Department Chair, and his improvisational group the “Improvasutra’s.”
Career Forecast Speaker Natalie Gosset MS MBA and USC’s Professor of Marketing and Business Development spoke to the eager crowd of students about how to be relevant for the current job market. Gosset, who also talked about predicting the global trends, mentioned that you are an early adopter, mass adopter, or a late adopter.
Her advice to students is: Ride the waves, to land in the right place.
