Moorpark beat Irvine Valley College on Friday, 3-1, in hopes to redeem themselves from their last home performance against Pierce College just two days prior.
Moorpark started strong by winning the first two games of the match in a consistent style, 25-22 25-22.
Irvine captured the third game, 25-20. Putting the score to two to one in favor of Moorpark. Everyone in the Moorpark stands felt the tension of the fourth game. Knowing this game could tie up the match, 2-2, if Irvine wins it would give them a big momentum push into the fifth and final game.
Despite Irvine’s, Sofia Furlong, and her inspiring 50 assists in the match, Irvine Valley struggled to pass the ball well.
Regardless of the tension, Moorpark stuck it out and won the fourth game, 25-23. Giving the match to Moorpark, three games to one over Irvine Valley.
The duo of Karissa Flack and Gabriella Luciani combined for 30 kills while Jessica Soprano had 23 assists for the match.
“The offense was in much better rhythm tonight,” said Flack. “The passing was much better, which made the sets better, and made it easier for me to hit the ball effectively.”
“Passing was the key to the win, no doubt,” Moorpark Head Coach, Steve Burkhart said. “Our passing was much more consistent and made life a lot easier for our setter and hitters.”
The Raiders move to (6-3) on the year, and are on the road next Wednesday to face off against West L.A. College.
