Moorpark College bounced back from a devastating season opening loss to rival Ventura College in thumping fashion, 54-7, Sept. 10, against the Los Angeles Pierce College Brahma’s.
After a scoreless first quarter, the deadlock was broken by a sack fumble recovery touchdown by the swarming Raider defense.
MC quarterback, Nick Owens, was 12 of 15 passing for 193 yards and four touchdowns, distributing the wealth with three different receivers catching scores. Donnel Robinson (freshman) pulled in two, DeAndre Hutchins (freshman) and Alex Hanover each scored one, and Corey Elmore (freshman) caught one from back up quarterback Bryan Choto (freshman) in the last seconds of the game.
Defense also pitched in with two scores a five yard fumble recovery for a score By Steven Townsley(freshman) and a 35 yard interception return by Marquis Mouton(sophomore). Crushing tackles and fast reactions were the keys to the Raiders defense and were put into full effect against the Brahma’s. Moorpark’s defense had 9 sacks couple with 4 interceptions.
This victory makes the Raiders record 1-1 in this early season. They play away at Allan Hancock College this Saturday September 17th; the game starts at 6 P.M.
