Pictures of the Imperial Palace lit up the wall as registered nurse Christine Woo began her presentation on Chinese history and health care.

Woo went over to China in 2006 on a family trip to see the area. She brought back plenty of pictures of the country for everyone to see.

“I started with an explanation of what the event would be about,” said Woo. “From there, I continued to give information about China’s history.”

Students witnessed the Chinese culture in a more detail-oriented aspect from normal. Woo’s presentation covered Ancient China through pictures and information on the Imperial Palace, Temple of Heaven, Great Wall of China and the Terracotta Army. From there, she proceeded into traditions of the Chinese including the zodiac with its origins, herbal Chinese medicines, mysticism and how jade cools a woman’s soul and body.

She also noted how the Chinese culture values children and how the one child per family restriction leads to “Little Emperor Syndrome.”

Austin Dahl, 21, a nursing major attended this event to gain understanding of China.

“The presentation was very interesting and I learned a lot about the Chinese that I didn’t know before,” said Dahl. “I also came to this event because it was from a nurse’s point of view.”

Woo is looking forward to her next family trip to the Southern portion of China this year at the end of May.
