There is an empty feeling that everyone gets when someone says that while they love a certain band, they only like one of the band’s songs.
That’s what it is like when bandwagon fans jump on the team that you are a die-hard fan of.
Sports fans have their team, the one team they would die for, the one they would call out sick to go see and the team they collect paraphernalia from.
Those are the ones who love their teams, and don’t care about whether the team goes to the play offs of not.
Granted, you always want to see your team successfully reach post-season play, but through thick and thin you will always be there for them.
However, there is still the scum of sports, and the scum of fans everywhere.
These scum are none other than the bandwagon fans.
What I mean by that are the fans who just jump on at the post season to see a team win the championship in their respective sport.
This is quite possibly the most humiliating thing to a true fan, or someone who is committed to their team whether they win or lose.
The first example of this that I can think of has to be the arrival of Manny Ramirez to the Dodgers this past season.
According to www.baseball-almanac.com, the Dodgers attendance in the 2008 season was 3,730,553 fans. The average in the National League was 2,755,082.
Don’t get me wrong, the Dodgers have always had a reputation of filling up Dodger Stadium. But they blew out the rest of the National League’s average by over 975,000 fans.
A large part of this is due to the increase in sales that Manny Ramirez brought in.
During the post season, unfamiliar faces such as Tiger Woods started to show up at Dodger Stadium in order to take in a good night at the ball park.
The Lakers have Jack Nicholson and bless his heart, it seems that he makes his way out to every home game.
But Tiger Woods at a Dodger game? Come on man, who do you think we are?
So all I’m saying is that you don’t want to be the one to give a real fan that empty feeling inside.
