It’s back to school, which means fall is right around the corner. Pack up those sandals, summer dresses and flowing tops and get ready for your fall wardrobe.
When transitioning your summer staples into your fall attire, you don’t always have to buy a completely new wardrobe. By strategically packing away the right pieces, and saving the season-appropriate garments, you could easily and affordably make a smooth transition into fall.
Summer skirts are always a key piece of clothing that you see during the summer. Put away the heavy floral patterns and stick with neutral colors, small floral prints, and bold colors. Think layers when getting dressed for fall and try to expose less skin in order to keep your wardrobe seasonal.
Pair a simple skirt with a pair of leggings or opaque tights and a nice flat or peep toe shoe. The same thing goes for shorts. Try to stay with darker washes; the light washes are out of season. Pairing them with leggings gives you a casual, yet edgy alternative to the normal shorts you wore all summer.
Short dresses are everywhere during the summer, but once the weather starts to cool down they aren’t typically your first choice anymore. In order to make your short dresses fall appropriate, try to stay away from heavy floral patterns and embrace the new season with a bold color. To keep warm, you can wear either leggings or tights, but try to stay with muted colors so your dress can be the highlight. Pairing your dress with a lightweight cardigan is a great way to layer your outfit. To achieve a slimming effect, simply place a belt over your cardigan at the waistline.
With the weather cooling down, wearing those tiny summer sandals isn’t going to be an option much longer. But don’t worry, with a new season comes new shoes. It’s about time to tuck away your sandals until next summer and dust off your boots.
Boots are great for almost any outfit during the fall whether you’re wearing a dress, jeans, leggings or a skirt. You can even play with height by choosing the boot length: above the knee, knee length, mid calf or ankle. Try to stay away from wearing a tall boot with a short skirt or shorts, or else you might find yourself to be a walking oxymoron. Slouchy suede boots are versatile since you can either wear them tall or slouch them down depending on your outfit. Ankle boots look great with dresses as well as skirts. Slouchy boots aren’t the best for a skirt or dress because they can often make your outfits proportioning look off, a good alternative would be an ankle boot or tight mid calf boot.
By utilizing what you have, you don’t have to spend more money on a new wardrobe. Be creative and layer up. It’s nice to embrace each season as it comes because with every new season comes a new wardrobe and a new you.
