The Ventura County Community College District is making the switch from WebSTAR to MyVCCCD, and with the VCCCD on the verge of making the change official, I suggest that any of you procrastinators jump on the band wagon.
My VCCCD is a great program. It runs very smoothly, and the set up is great. You can find all your classes for the semester clearly posted right in your homepage, and you can click on any of them to see general information about the class. The homepage keeps you updated with campus announcements and events. There are also options of a VCCCD email address, groups and quick links to lots of different student services. The navigation is smooth and easy.
“The portal provides a one-stop, easily navigable website for all VCCCD online services, accessible with a single login,” said Dave Fuhrman, associate vice chancellor of information technology. “There is no longer a need to access multiple sites for various services, and remember multiple account logins and passwords.”
For those of us getting newly acquainted with the program, you can find tutorials under the student services tab located at the top of the screen. These detailed explanations are extremely helpful. While there, also check out the directory of services, a nifty little box with links to contact information about services like ACCESS and the Campus Police.
Many students like the new program. Ben Katz, a 19-year-old undeclared major was particularly pleased.
“I think MyVCCCD.edu is a good site, and from my limited exploration with it I think it’s well organized,” said Katz. “The navigation is easier [than WebSTAR], and the site has a nice feel to it.”
18-year-old business economics major Anita Patel was also positive about the program.
“I found it a nice upgrade and an easy transition from WebSTAR” she said.
In short, what any student is looking for in an online program of this sort is a simple, but helpful site with very few bugs to hold them up and easy access to its many features: classes, services, contacts, information and links. With the added benefit of calendars and event reminders, My VCCCD amply serves its purpose.
