The Moorpark College dance department began practicing for the upcoming show “Motion Flux.” The motivated dancers are planning to put on a show you will not want to miss starting April 24 through the 27.
“This show is going to tap into something special to each audience member,” said dance instructor Nancy Paradis. “It will be a crisp well prepared show.”
Instructor Robert Salas and his partner Paradis prepare the students not only through dancing but through life skills as well. They are teaching values that extend out of the classroom.
“It requires teamwork, accountability, keeping your word, trying your best and stepping into opportunities that wouldn’t normally be available,” said Paradis.
This year’s concert is inspired by Beethoven, Salas wants to portray a message of love and hate to the audience. Being a former martial artist, Salas was intrigued by the storytelling and the transformative aspect that dance is capable of. The higher levels of martial arts involve dance-like moves which is what led him to his career now.
“There is an artistic component to dance which is much deeper, that’s the area I like to go,” said Salas.
The pieces are prepared by student choreographers along with a few faculty members. David Lagunas, 19, is one of the eight student choreographers picked to compose a dance for the show.
“I want the audience to be able to create their own meaning of my piece depending on what sparks them,” said Lagunas.
“Motion Flux” will be held in the performing arts center at Moorpark College at 8 p.m. on April 24, 25, 26, and 2. p.m. on April 27.
