Even from the library building at Moorpark College, the walk to the cafeteria can be a long haul for hungry students.
Lucky for them, the new Campus Bistro opened for business on Feb. 20, setting up shop between Fountain Hall and the library building.
The Bistro was previously a Seattle’s Best coffee stand, but Food Court Manager Darren Wise switched to “a better coffee brand company through a new purveyor,” prompting the change of names.
According to Wise, the Bistro is oriented toward staff members and health-conscious individuals, offering a variety of wraps, salads, and different rice bowls, as well as coffee, drinks, and snacks. Wraps come with a side of either macaroni or potato salad.
Because the eatery has just opened, the menu is still under testing in the campus market, so some items are still subject to change. Wise said, “Whatever doesn’t sell we may take out and put in a Teryaki Chicken bowl.”
At this early stage of business, the bistro only accepts cash payments.
“We’re looking into credit cards, but that can be a process, so right now we just do cash,” Wise said.
The Campus Bistro creates even more meal options for vegetarians, as many of the menu items contain chicken or tofu.
Wise hopes that the newest improvement in food service and Moorpark College will find a successful niche with its added convenience for students and staff, as well as please them with the new products.
