The big food conglomerates will tell you that pizza is America’s favorite food. I will tell you that there is a difference between good pizza and “fast food” pizza.
Romio’s Pizza in Moorpark, just minutes from the college, is a potential hot-spot for students who are growing weary of cafeteria-cardboard-pizza.
The pizza is one of a kind, except for the other Romios branches, including the one in Thousand Oaks.
On the scale of pizza greatness, Elementary School paper-pizza being the lowest, and BJ’s pizza being at the top, Romio’s is better than Round Table, but not as good Lamppost, which is the regular delivery for the Student Voice.
Romio’s is priced very friendly, having lunch prices, and half orders. The portions are huge, so a half portion is basically normal sized.
The prices look high, but on a second look, you see the half orders and the sizes of the meals and you quickly come to the realization that to feed the whole table will not cost a C-note.
For two of us, I was worried my bill was going to be around $35, but when I received the bill, it was less than 20.
The restaurant is built like a cave in the shape of a “V,” the bar going down one side, and the dining room down the other.
This is was a rather unfortunate design-flaw on the part of the architect, basically by not realizing that it would be a hot-bed for after-game team celebrations.
When we went, some baseball team was having a banquet, and in order to communicate with my date, we had to text to each other, because we couldn’t hear each other without leaning over the table and yelling.
And I don’t know if it was just bad timing, or the restaurant is still new, but the poor wait staff was one waiter, one waitress, one host, one manager, and two bartenders (split among one bar patron), working a full restaurant of people.
The service was great though, and our waitress got a big tip.
Everything we ate tasted great, and the cheese bread was excellent.
They’ve got some huge TV’s, so if a favorite team is playing, pretty much wherever you sit, you’ll be able to follow the game if the dinner-table banter gets to pious for you.
But really, the best thing about Romio’s Pizza in Moorpark, is Coldstone is right next door. They have Ice cream specials every weekday for buy one get one free ice cream or all kinds of other sweet deals.
