Moorpark College Women’s Volleyball held down their home court Friday, Oct.19 as they swept their local rivals, the Ventura College Pirates, 3 games to 1.
Head Coach Stephen Burkhart spoke about the two teams facing off in the past.
“We’ve had a long history of a pretty good rivalry with those guys,” said Burkhart.
The Raiders struggled to find their groove in the first game which was closely contested. They eventually found a rhythm that put them back on top, winning the first game with a narrow margin of 26-24.
The Raiders dominated the next two sets, winning games two and three with a score of 25-18 and 25-11. The scoring leaders were Brittany Sharpe, who had eight kills and two blocks, and Amber Glabb with eight kills and 15 digs.
Cierra Merz explained why the team was able to execute so effectively.
“A lot of communication is key for us,” said Merz. “It was definitely key tonight.”
With the season winding down, these last few games become more and more crucial. Christina Sadler explained the importance of this victory.

“We won in three and we basically said, hey this is our house, don’t mess with us,” said Stephens.
The Raiders will play their next game at home against LA Mission on Oct. 24 at 7 p.m. They will also be hosting their annual “Dig Pink” game on Oct. 26 to promote breast cancer awareness.
