For students who are unsure of a career path to follow or have no idea what they want to do, there is still hope.
Moorpark College offers a self-paced career assessment course geared to help one discover what major fits them best.
The course is offered for one to have the option to work at their own pace; therefore there are no weekly classes. While earning half a graded, CSU transferable unit while learning about values, interests and personality traits.
Course instructor and Moorpark’s Career Transfer Center coordinator Judi Gould says that the course is beneficial.
“Most students enjoy this course because it is finding out more about themselves,” she said. “Over half of today’s work force really doesn’t like their job.”
Whether it is a major or career, those who like what they do tend to perform better.
Gould gave some advice while quoting Confucius.
“Find a job you love and you will never have to work a day in your life,” she said.
After registering for the class, COUN M60C, CRN 39750, an orientation must be attended which includes Thursdays at 4 p.m. and some Mondays at 5:30 p.m.
After that, you do the assessment and workbook, which can be completed anywhere.
Then, a debriefing meeting must be attended in which one will better understand the types of courses they should be taking in the direction of obtaining the major that fits them best.
This course may be utilized to guide one towards becoming exactly who they want to become.
