The Moorpark College Child Development Center will be hosting a fundraiser entitled “Discovery Day” to help promote the center and its programs on Saturday, March 20 from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Each year the event is widely publicized in order to promote the development of children ages two to 10 in numerous activities, which will include “mining for gold,” “digging for fossils” and experimenting with various “doughs” among others.
According to Mary Anne Beck, who is administrative assistant to the Child Development Center Coordinator Cynthia Sheaks-McGowen, the goal is to reach out to the community and offer parents a way to spend time with their kids.
“[Discovery Day] is letting parents in the community know what a quality program has to offer,” Beck said. “[We want to] have community families experience what we have to offer.”
Beck believes the event is also intended for children to enjoy process-oriented activities that are educational and fun for the children.
“For these children, hands-on experience is what we offer,” she said.
There will also be a silent auction at Discovery Day, which will showcase products from toymaker Gene West and will even include musical entertainment from the Sunshine Band.
