New Orleans native Curren$y dropped a new mixtape with his Jet Life crew a little earlier last month, which was business as usual for the rapper and his crew, but this time with one huge difference. The “Red Eye” mixtape is not only all-new material, it is a completely revolutionized the way in which countless artists will soon release their work to the world.
Before the release of the mixtape, Curren$y and the free Peer2Peer protocol BitTorrent discussed ways in which to change the method that music is delivered from the artist to the listener. Fellow artist Jay-Z made some waves in the news with his partnership with Samsung last month to make his new Album available to a million Galaxy smartphone users, but also received criticism for essentially going platinum before he released it.
Curren$y, along with several artists such as Linkin Park, Pretty Lights, Public Enemy and The Pixies, have now released what BitTorrent is referring to as “Bundles.” These “Bundles” are multimedia packages that are fully accessible or just the opposite all depending on what you, the listener wants. You can choose what you would like to pay (including nothing) and what you would like to download from the bundle. You can even choose whether or not you would like to sign up to receive updates from the artist about shows, releases, and more bundles.
The downloads, thanks to BitTorrent’s tenacious speeds, finish nearly instantaneously with the help of a BitTorrent client base of nearly 70 million, and what you get is nothing short of an extreme effort on the artists behalf to make their fans happy. Items such as music, posters, wallpapers, video edits and vlogs are staples for almost every bundle. Some also include interactive contests, tour dates and streamlined ways of buying tickets for the artists, and with the ability to pick and choose, you can be fully in control of what you want.
Most of the material is not released anywhere else aside from the bundles to give them an added feeling of exclusivity. The bundles also contain top-quality work, HD videos and plenty of material to ensure that we as listeners don’t feel as if we’re putting in more work than the artist.
As for Curren$y, his Jet Life crew flew in and out of Los Angeles this weekend at the Los Globos club for a small personal show with fans as part of the “Red Eye” tour. Fans who were lucky enough to be in attendance got to hear all the new material live, in addition to getting a chance to talk with the artists about projects in the works.
“Don’t Trip.” said Curren$y.
