The Ventura County Community College District Board of Trustees will hold their monthly meeting on Tuesday evening, Dec. 13. at the Ventura Unified School District in the Multipurpose Room 255 on West Stanley Ave Suite 100 Ventura, CA.
Recently, the Board has been consumed by the county’s budget crisis – an $11 – $12 million deficit for Moorpark, Oxnard and Ventura Colleges. Proposals for program cuts have been presented and are still pending until the new year; however, updated budget information is expected at this week’s meeting.
Clare Geisen is the Director of Administrative Relations for VCCCD. She said that Sue Johnson, Vice Chancellor of Business and Administrative Services, will address the Board and the public with budget information.
“She will give the current status if anything has changed at the state level and how it will impact us,” Geisen said.
Geisen confirmed that a new Chairman and Vice Chairman will be elected at the board meeting and their positions will become effective immediately.
Chancellor James Meznek’s resignation was announced on Nov. 30, and the Board will discuss potential recruitment methods for hiring a new chancellor. The Board will decide between utilizing the District’s Human Resources Department or hiring an external recruitment firm in which additional funds would be required.
As a means of increasing revenue, Vice Chancellor Johnson will present a proposal to increase the price of parking permits starting in Summer 2012. For Fall and Spring semester, the price would increase from $40 to $50, and Summer intersession would increase from $20 to $25. This could generate an estimated $355,000 annually.
Parking prices are just one example of an increase in fees that students will experience in the near future. Price per unit will inevitably increase as well.
The Board will also be approving payments to the renovations occurring on OC’s Learning Resource Center and on various buildings at VC.
A public forum will be held toward the beginning of the meeting for any members of the public interested in addressing the Board. The meeting will be held at Ventura Unified School District in the Multipurpose Room 255 on West Stanley Ave Suite 100 Ventura, CA. of the District Office and is open to the public at 6 p.m.
