Students, faculty, staff and community members are invited to come and attend the dedication of Oxnard College’s new Student Services Building on Oct. 22 at 4 p.m.
The event will take place in front of the new building with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and placement of a commemorative plaque. After the ceremony, community members will have the opportunity to take guided tours of the facility.
At nearly 38,000 square feet, this two-story building was intended and created for students to receive services in admissions and records and also to house the Student Business Office, Campus Administration, the Health Center and counseling.
“The Student services and administration building was designed to be the first point of contact for students,” said Richard Duran, Oxnard College president, in a press release statement. “By consolidating services under one roof…students can conveniently use this resource to receive critical academic and administrative support.”
Also connected to it, accommodating between 150-300 individuals in its interior and exterior dining areas, is the new one-story cafeteria where students can enjoy a bite in between classes, or study on the tables outside.
“It’s big. It is way bigger,” said Brenda Rivera, an 18-year-old nursing major. “There’s more room, and it’s not in one small building.”
Bond Measure S funded the construction project and was made possible by voters of Ventura County.
“The Board is extremely grateful for the support from the community through Measure S,” stated Robert Huber, chair of the board of trustees, in a released statement. “This state-of the art facility, and the services provided, clearly demonstrate Oxnard College’s commitment to students on its vital and growing campus.”
Students and staff alike are impressed with the Student Services Center.
“This is a million dollar view,” said Cathy Garnica, public information officer. “It’s a beautiful building.”
