Despite a much-improved effort, Moorpark College’s men’s soccer team failed to overcome Oxnard College, the defending Western State Conference (WSC) champions.
Although OC dominated the possession, in terms of chances created, both teams were about even. The difference in the match proved to be the chances that were converted.
Two of those chances were by the Condors in the first half, none by the Raiders throughout the game.
The first was the result of a poor clearance off of a corner by the MC defense, which left OC striker Jesus Landeros No. 10 open for a quick shot in a dangerous position. The strike easily beat the Raider goalkeeper.
The second occurred against the run of play, a ball given away carelessly by an MC midfielder. OC midfielder No. 8 Gustavo Navarro opened on top of the Raider box to blast a second into the MC goal.
The Condors left victorious by a final score 2-0.
Encouraged by the teams’ effort, Raiders’ sophomore Captain Edwin Rivas had this to say about the teams defeat.
“We’re getting better,” Rivas said. “Slowly but steadily we’re getting into a groove. We just need to be more consistent. They were just a better team today.”
