It’s not every day students get a glimpse at a professor’s non-professional life. Looking at photographer Lynn Meschan’s work, it’s hard to believe she’s a psychology professor here at Moorpark College.
Meschan’s collection “Reflections in Photography” is hanging from the walls of the Administration Building Gallery until Feb. 6. Curator Julie Hughes held a reception for the artist last Friday, the 22nd in which Meschan floated around the gallery answering questions and putting a face to the pictures. On eight adjacent walls, photographs represented natural wonders from distant countries as well as different parts of the U.S.
The psychology professor turned photographer explained that photography comes from a different side of her: she takes photographs as a mental release but has no other psychological influence in her work.
“This is one of my stress management strategies,” said Meschan.
Linzi Gasper, 18, major undecided, came into the art gallery looking for Professor Meschan’s sign-in sheet to receive credit for class. Despite her reason for visiting, she quickly found her favorite photograph, “Aegean Sea, Sifnos Island.”
“The colors, it’s kind of strange, like someone’s looking out,” Gasper mused. “It’s unique, I can’t tell if it’s sunrise or sunset”.
Another student of Menschan’s, Jasmine Delarosa, 18, major undecided, liked “Havasu Falls, Grand Canyon” claiming it looked familiar and was not sure if she had visited.
“You were born there,” Gasper teased her friend.
