The cross-town rivalry continues Wednesday night, as the Moorpark Raiders take on the Ventura Pirates at Raider Pavilion.
The women’s game poses a promising headline as both teams come into the game with a league record of (5-0). Despite the Raider’s undefeated record, they will be the “underdog” due to the Pirates #1 ranking in Southern California.
Ventura’s sophomore, Destinee LaFountain, who averaged an impressive double-double last year as a freshman will be looking to continue her dominance with a win Wednesday night. That task will be hard for LaFountain, because four time “WSC Player of the Week” Ashley Samson will do her best to make sure that Moorpark maintains their top spot in the conference. Tip-off is at 5 p.m.
The men’s basketball game will be just as interesting as both teams are looking to stay in the top flight of the conference. Ventura College comes into the game with a (4-1) conference record, while Moorpark has a (3-2) record.
The Raiders have yet to lose a conference home game and plan to keep it that way against the Pirates and their sharp shooter, Austin Ramljak. Ramljak is averaging just under 15 points per game for the Pirates.
Moorpark’s returning All-League performers, Jamal McClerkin and Coltrane Powdrill will look to score a lot of points Wednesday in hopes to stay a top the Western State Conference. Tip-off is at 7 p.m.
Admission is free for students and children, $5 for adults.
