The Moorpark College Women’s Volleyball team hosted its fourth annual Dig Pink fundraiser on Oct. 28 against cross-county rival Ventura College to help fight cancer through raising funds and awareness.
Aside from the teams wearing pink to represent the fight against breast cancer, there were many fundraising activities.
Each player had a cancer survivor as a guest at the game, and presented that guest with a coronation before the game started in an opening ceremony.
The teams also conducted a bake sale and a raffle in an effort to raise money for the cause.
“It really doesn’t get any better than this,” said Athletic Director Howard Davis. “It’s for a great cause, and the atmosphere is a great addition to the game.”
All in all the event raised well over $750, the proceeds were donated to numerous foundations that support breast cancer awareness.
The Raiders ended up coming away with an easy win over Ventura, winning in 3 straight games for the 8th straight match this season.
With a 16-3 overall record and an 8-0 conference record, the Raiders are ranked 7 in the state with plans to keep pressing forward.
Karissa Flack, the team’s captain, lead the team in kills.
“We still have to continue to win games and get better,” said Flack. “Games are not going to get any easier.”
