A former Moorpark College professor is having a book signing for his recently published paperback entitled “Comparing and Evaluating the Scriptures: A Timely Challenge for Jews, Christians, Muslims & Mormons.”
Paul Fink taught philosophy at Moorpark for 22 years, starting in the college’s second year and retiring in 1992, where he taught comparative religion classes and logic.
Fink said he has written textbooks before, but nothing with the kind of reason he had for “Comparing and Evaluating the Scriptures.”
“I critique the scriptures from the point of a logician and a moralist,” Fink said. “I take a 21st century view on conservative scriptures.”
The genesis of the book came from Fink’s observations of religious fundamentalism, and that although the views of different faiths often clash, they are actually closely related.
“I was so upset with (people’s) mindset on the Middle East,” he said. “I’m worried about my children and grandchildren. I don’t want them to wake up to a nuclear war.”
The Thousand Oaks book signing will take place Saturday, April 18 from 2 to 4 p.m. at Borders. Fink is also trying to arrange a signing at Oxnard and Simi Valley Borders, but those signings have yet to be determined.
