In a solid double header on Friday, Sept. 21, the Women’s Volleyball team faced off against Imperial Valley College and West Los Angeles College, and went on to secure two wins on their home court.
The Raiders defeated Imperial Valley College by a margin of three games to one with the final scores of the first match being 25-19, 25-13, 22-25, and 25-18.
Scoring leader Amber Glabb,outside hitter, lead Moorpark College to their first win of the night with 17 kills and 19 digs. The team was able to utilize their hitters more effectively with the help of Brittnie Blanchard who came up with 45 assists, allowing the team to sweep past Imperial Valley College for the win.
After their first victory, the Raiders carried their momentum into the second match of the night against West Los Angeles College who they defeated three games to none. The final scores were 25-19, 25-17, and 25-21. The match’s scoring leader was middle blocker Gabby Luciani who had 10 kills. Brittnie Blanchard returned to contribute another 42 assists in the second game.
Kalene DeGuzman,outside hitter, felt the second match should not have been as close as it was.
“I think we let them have a lot of free points that they shouldn’t have had but I think we did good overall,” said DeGuzman.
Middle blocker Cierra Merz said playing a double header may have been an advantage for the team.
“To win and then come back again and win in our own gym, to have that advantage it’s nice,” said Merz.
The two victories advanced the Raiders to a record of 6-4 in the season.
Coach Stephen Burkhart spoke about the new line up the team is trying and how that affected their game.
“We’re trying a new lineup and the lineup that we’re trying seems to be working okay, so I think that helped us a lot,” said Burkart.
After a successful double header, the Raiders will head on the road Wednesday, Sept. 26 to face Citrus College at 6 p.m.
