First off, forgive my typing, it’s early in the morning and I can’t sleep till I get this off my chest, and my iPod touch was a lot closer than my computer. But that argument is for another day. Anyway, today was rather eventful. If you’re online reading this then I don’t have to tell you our economy appears to be heading down the shitter. (side note, shitter is in the iPod dictionary because I just mistyped it and it self-corrected.)
From just personal experience at school, I have gone through three banks to help me pay for school, and the one I chose this year just got taken over by J. P. Morgan Chase. So by the time I graduate I will probably have student loans from five different banks. That’s ridiculous.
This time, congress failed to act. And I’m not just pointing fingers at the nay-Sayers, it’s probably a good thing that bailout tanked.
Capitalism says basically free market with gov’t pretty much out of the market.
If the government would have passed the $700 billion bailout package, it would have been not good for us. That amount of money is te equivalent of $2000+ for every citizen. There is no way to pay for that by cutting spending, because according to Syndicated Columnist and Author Robert Scheer, that bailout package is the same amount of money as our annual defense budget.
So looking at just finances, there is basically two options to afford to CYA of a few greedy Wall Street idiots who should have known better: Stop any Military/defense/R&D/production/anything defense related spending all together, or charge everyone in the U.S. including those poor people that lost their homes to foreclosure because of these jerks’ shady get-rich-quick scheme $2000. How messed up is that?
Scheer was on campus last night for the Year of Democracy and gave a great talk about some of the problems facing government today. While I agree he is a liberal left-wing nut job, a level-headed person can’t go away without thinking about what he said. He made a good point though. There is a lot going on that our government isn’t telling us. In the words of Scheer, at least the people in the former Soviet Union knew that what was in the papers was a lie.
Here’s the thing that these politicians aren’t thinking about: Our generation. They are going to make sure they don’t have to deal with this again by putting it off until after they have left office. So they make it our generation’s problem to deal with.
We need to advocate the peaceful overthrow of our government. In every congressional district in the U.S. get new members of the house and new senators in every state. Both candidates for President supported this bailout. We have the power to fire them both. As for Wall Street, let it crash. We’ve survived it before. It would be hard on everyone, yes, but seriously, it’s going to get hard on everyone anyway. We may not be in a classic Recession, but we are in the middle of an economic clusterf*ck ( google it if you don’t know it).
So where does the district attorney come in? Well, he spoke at school today too, to an audience of 15 in the PAC. In all this doom and gloom nonsense, Michael Lief gave a great speech on civil liberties. I know, it sounded boring to me too, but he captivated the audience and left them asking for more.
250 years ago, slaves weren’t considered people. Since then we’ve made some serious changes. But with the advances in genetics who’s to say we can’t build new slaves from say apes? Really who’s to say where it will go from here? It may sound like science fiction, but so were cell phones when Get Smart was on T.V. Remember the shoe phone?
The stock market took a huge dive yesterday. A bigger loss than ever in history. I think it’s time to take the economy out of the hands of people who would knowingly give the false hope of the American dream to someone they knew would never be able to afford the home loan. Now we need to take the power away from them and the senators and members of the House that they keep in their pockets.
