From the beginning of the tale The Tortoise and the Hare, it seemed inevitable that the hare would outrun the tortoise. However, as the hare slept, the tortoise pulled ahead.
Although not a fable by any means, the Moorpark College men’s basketball team played the role of the tortoise, rallying from an early 14-point deficit to defeat the hare, played by Cuesta College, 64-60 at Raider Pavilion Saturday afternoon.
This come-from-behind victory propelled the Raiders to the top of the Western State Conference North Division standings.
Mike Meza had 21 points, Spencer Shulte had 16 points and Wendell Antoine added 14 points and 8 rebounds for the Raiders (15-7, 5-1 WSC North).
The Cougars (18-5, 4-1) took an 18-4 lead early in the game, before being outscored 60-42 the rest of the way.
The Raiders have a bye week coming up and will remain number one in the standings for at least another week.
