Finals are approaching at lightning speed. Do you have enough pencils? Do you have enough Blue Books? Is your head spinning out of control? If you are asking yourself any of these questions, it might mean you are having “finals anxiety.”
The upcoming spring semester finals are scheduled for May 8-14. At the end of every semester, students run around like chickens with their heads cut off. Going to classes all day, staying up all night studying, not to mention if you throw in a job and a tiny bit of a social life, things become frantic.
“I am very scared of finals. How you do now affects your entire grade,” says MC student Debbie Bunch “It’s now-or-never time.”
Most students have bad feelings or finals anxiety that is seasonal towards the end of the school semesters. Luckily, the MC campus has some solutions for this mind-boggling time.
“The vast majority of students who feel anxiety during finals are not suffering disabling conditions. There are many ways to relieve stress other than using ACCESS” says ACCESS Director, Sherry D’Attile.
There are a variety of groups on campus that help students who are dealing with extreme stress anxiety. There are counseling groups that deal only with stress management as well as individual counseling sessions.
“I don’t feel anxious about finals because I am prepared,” says 20 year-old student Craig Voss. “It’s not stressful if you know what you’re doing.”
So if you are really in fear of those final days, there is more than you can do to feel prepared than just study until your brain explodes. Don’t expect to not pay attention all semester then cram like hell the night before the final, you probably won’t pass the class. For students who are trying, and perhaps trying too much, there are solutions. You can get help during these stressful times, all you have to do is ask for it.
