The Moorpark Business Student Association’s success with last year’s Business Expo is intriguing new members and motivating existing club leaders to put on an even larger event this year. Jean Pierre Seminario, vice-president of the Moorpark BSA, believes that the student run Business Expo helped nearly 300 students get a broader glimpse into the business world. “One of the best things I got out of this particular event is gaining the experience not provided by business classes which gives me the confidence to later go on in the business world,” said Seminario. The student-run expo hosted several guest speakers from big companies such as JD Powers and Associates who shared personal and field experiences. This year, the club’s leaders plan on expanding the event further by hosting returning business leaders as well as new ones. The expo will be held in April 2007.BSA held its first official meeting of the fall semester on Thursday, Aug. 24. This organization, founded by Professor Lori Bennett nearly 3 years ago, has been incredibly successful in gaining new membership through a slew of student hosted activities. Last year, BSA, headed by accounting major Roberto Brooks, held a Business Transfer Night, Business Expo and participated in a Los Angeles AIDS walk. The success of last year’s events propels the current board members, along with a large group of new members, to sponsor a Business Transfer night on Nov. 9, AIDS Walk on Oct. 15, and the Business Expo. The club attracts a large variety of students with many different cultural backgrounds and education goals; however their passion for business ties them all together. Former BSA President Audra Delvillar encourages students to join the club. “BSA is not only about connecting the students on campus but connecting them to the outside world,” said Delvillar. Forming strong networks is a key part of success in the business world, a large benefit of being involved in this club. BSA members will go to many business classes to share club information with students and encourage participation in BSA events. BSA’s “THINK BIG” ad campaign posters will be posted around campus with further information about upcoming events such as this year’s Business Expo. Meetings are held every Thursday in SX3 at 1 p.m., with guest speakers from the business world on the first meeting of each month. BSA board members encourage students who have any questions about the club to contact [email protected].
