Room 100 at the Performing Arts Center was filled with students huddled into seats as Matt Sedillo took the stage. Matt Sedillo, a political slam poet, welcomed the audience and began reading a poem.
In the poem Sedillo discussed his Mexican heritage and what it meant to him. The poem also had a central theme of how others perceive him and his heritage.
In total, Sedillo recited 15 poems, covering numerous topics such as race, love, fear, personal experience, economy, revolutions and politics.
In one of his more comedic poems Sedillo shouted, “Gangsta’s are takin’ over!” as he criticized society and the I-fear-you mentality.
