Vending machines and microwaves replace Moorpark College’s Cafeteria’s fresh food options made to order.
Jonnie Tibbetts, 18, an art major, loved how convenient the cafeteria was for her during the busy rush of the day. She is now extremely disappointed by the fact that it will no longer be an option for her.
“It’s really crazy and sucks,” said Tibbetts. “What is there around us now besides Subway and McDonalds?”
Budget cuts have led to the transition from friendly faces and fresh food to the pre-packaged meals being dispensed out of machines. These pre-made food items are now students’ only on campus option for food.
Most of the students at Moorpark College are not a fan of the re-vamped cafeteria.
Krista Abramson, 18, undecided major, has thought about the change and wonders why the school did not just have a company, or catering service come in and take over.
“It’s weird that they would cut that, it does not make sense to me,” said Abramson. “It seems like there should be some sort of law against the school not having one.”
Vicki Deirboghossian, 19, communications major, strongly prefers fresh food to something “stacked and packaged”, as she said it, and will particularly miss the student workers.
“I really enjoyed the sandwich staff, they were pretty entertaining,” said Dierboghossian.
Although the cafeteria services are not what they used to be, Moorpark College is doing what it can to provide students with food options on campus.
