The Los Angeles Dodgers have done the impossible. After 20 years of waiting, the Dodgers are finally winners of a post season series, as they swept the Chicago Cubs on Saturday night.
The Dodgers have only swept a post season series one other time in the team’s history. What makes this so remarkable is the fact that they did it against the heavily favored Cubs. I myself, am a huge fan of the Dodgers, but let’s just be honest for a second here. Nobody expected the Dodgers to embarrass the Cubs the way that they did.
But then again, the Cubs almost just embarrassed themselves in this series. In game two, every infielder for the Cubs had an error that lead to the Dodgers 10-3 batting practice defeat.
It really wasn’t even a series that was worth watching. You flipped on the tube to check the score and seemed like every time you did so the Dodgers were up, huge.
Now, most will say that this is to be contributed to Manny Ramirez, but I really don’t believe that for a second. What the Dodgers did was a complete team effort. On Wednesday, it was Loney who came up big with the crippling grand slam, on Thursday, it was Martin who came up with a base clearing double with the bases loaded to give the Dodgers a 5-0 lead, and on Saturday night, the offense didn’t shine as much , but a stellar job by Hiroki Kuroda going 6.1 innings and giving up no runs led the way to the Dodgers eventually clinching the ball game.
When you really look at the series the Dodgers showed that they are here and ready for the post season, whether critics believe it or not. Sweeping the best team in the National League in three games really shows what you want to do.
Oh, and I suppose I forgot to mention that Manny did hit two home runs in his first two post season games as a Dodger. Manny is just being Manny and Dodger fans love that.
