Math can kill you. You put off taking the math classes you need because they give you the willies and now that one requirement is the only thing stopping you from the UC of your dreams. Or you’re enrolled and not doing well. Suddenly, you’re spending all your time studying for a subject you hate and when you get your test back, you feel like it was all for nothing. At this point, you might not be feeling so good about yourself.
Luckily, Student Services on the Moorpark campus has you covered.
Naturally, if you’re having a problem with a subject, the first place a student should go is the Learning Center.
Here you can get tutoring in a wide range of subjects. There are also math and writing centers for the two most commonly challenging subjects.
There’s even online tutoring which can be done via appointment or email. The Learning Center is located on the third floor of the Library Learning Resource building and can be reached at 805-378-1556.
ACCESS was put in place to help students with disabilities, ranging from physical to learning to psychological. Denise Avila, a representative of the counselors on campus, said “ACCESS is the least used source that could help the most people.”
If you qualify, which can be determined on site, you’ll find many new options available to you, such as more time for tests or having a proctor administrate it. Plus, ACCESS isn’t just about math; issues you have with any subject can be eased with the help of ACCESS. To contact the ACCESS Center, call (805) 378-1461.
Now if something has you down, such as school or even more personal issues there are facilities on campus in the Student Health Center where you can get help from trained professionals. Psychological counseling is completely confidential sessions with a psychologist that can offer you the help you might need.
Aside from mental health, the Student Health Center offers physical health assistance in many facets, offering birth control information, help with quitting smoking, and even nutritional counseling. The Health Center is in the Administration building and can be reached at 805-378-1413.
Something most students would want to take advantage of is the Counseling Center to help you stay on track for transferring. With the CSUs already accepting applications and the UCs doing so in just over a week, it’s important to get any information you might need now.
And now, in the middle of the semester, is the perfect time to make an appointment or drop by. Counseling Central is located in the Administration building. Make an appointment by calling (805) 378-1428.
As students in the community college system, it’s important to know that there are options. Never just assume that something is a problem that you are forced to shoulder alone.
There are avenues to be taken and options ahead of you. Remember, math can kill you, but you can always fight back.
