The Moorpark College dance department presents the “Speaking Movement” concert that promises an exciting evening full of dance and fun.
The Moorpark College’s fall dance concert directed by Beth Megill, incorporates many different works of a variety of styles, including modern, pointe, neo-classical ballet, tap, and hip-hop/contemporary styles.
“American commercial culture has a love of dance, that we see on TV and in films,” said Megill. “Concert dance is special and different because it asks questions and creates meaning that affords us deeper insight into who we are and how we relate to the world.”
The pieces are choreographed by the Moorpark College faculty members as well as guest artist Jessica Kondrath and student choreographer Sara Lavalley.
Kondrath is the artistic director for her company, ‘The Movement’ in Long Beach. Kondrath says she aims to explore the intimate connection between movement and a musical score.
Lavalley comes from a hip-hop background. “I am excited to present my piece,” said Lavalley. “It’s about the way we often struggle with our appearances and sense of self.”
The “Speaking Movement” dance concert will be held at the Moorpark College Performing Arts center at 8 p.m. on Nov. 21, 22, 23, and at 2 p.m. on Nov. 24.
Tickets can be purchased online and are discounted at 20 percent at www.moorparkcollege.edu/PAC or at the Moorpark College Box Office, located in the Performing Arts Center on campus.
