Like watering a plant, the Public Art Installation at Oxnard College is nurturing the community by communicating messages written on clay tablets expressing the theme, “How Are You?”
Ceramics instructor Jenchi Wu and her students will lead the public art project. The project is created to give more meaning to the phrase, “How are you,” in order to break down and rebuild the community between students on campus.
To redefine the typical question, the ceramic students will challenge other students to answer honestly. There will be no cheesy responses such as: “fine”, “ok”, or “good”. There must be emotion. They will write their answers on ceramic tablets and hang them on a tree, like ornaments.
Every tablet is one piece closer to community. Throughout history, art has been a driving force for unity.
The program will start on April 6 and continue Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. until April 30.
