The forensics team won their tenth national title at their last tournament of the year in Chicago on April 6-15 at the annual national competition.
The team took first place at both the state and national competitions this year. This is the first time that they have won both titles since 2004.
Rolland Petrello is a speech teacher at Moorpark College and is in charge of the forensics team and said that this year has been a very successful year.
“We had a phenomenal season all year long” said Petrello.
Of the 18 members of the team, 15 competitors won a total of 31 medals in eight categories, including persuasive speaking, dramatic interpretation and extemporaneous speaking.
Adam Rayzor, 19, a communications major, is one of the five students who will be returning. He said that the competition itself went really well and he loves being on the team.
“I think being around everyone on the team is really fun,” said Rayzor.
Anyone can join the forensics team. All a student needs to do is enroll in communications 10A and show up the first week of school.
“We will coach anybody” said Petrello.
Petrello said that he is very proud of all of the competitors.
“This has been one of our best years in the resent memory” said Petrello.
