The Moorpark College Track and Field team is making a statement, yet again, as both the men and women squads left Bakersfield with a 14-0 record.
Some of the events that Moorpark men dominated in were for the men, the triple jump, where DJ Price, Troy Lewis, and Rex Bridgeforth each took first (46’2 ¾”), second (46’1 ¾”), and third (46’0″) respectively. The javelin throw, where Nick Bawden took 1st place with a 196′ 4″ throw and Gary Jeffrey, who took 2nd, with a throw of 157′ 9″. In the women’s events, where the women took 1st – 4th place in both the shot put and discuss, Aubrey Baxter was able to place 1st in the shot put (45′ 10.5″), 1st in the javelin (116’2″), 2nd in the hammer (163’7″), and 4th in the discus (143′ 7″).
For the men’s squad, this was the 94th straight win in the WSC, a record that has lasted since 1990 and for the women’s squad this was the 14th straight win this season.
Moorpark came into Bakersfield with an 11-0 record, and competed against Bakersfield, who were also 11-0 at that time, Citrus, and Santa Barbara Colleges. After the day was done, both men and women’s squads had a record of 14-0 thanks, in large part to the outstanding work by the athletes.
“I am really proud of the athletes and what they have done,” said Traycie Kephart, the women’s track and field coach. ” They all should be really proud of themselves and how well they have done.”
The track and field team has five more competitions before they will be competing in the Western State Conference Championship that will be held at Moorpark College on April 29.
