After more than a year without a president, Ventura College welcomes Dr. Robin Calote.
The new president comes from Valley College in San Bernardino with a vision for the future of Ventura College.
Calote plans on expanding the involvement of students and faculty in the development of budget and the allocation of funds, which will help the college to get project funding where it’s most needed, and give everyone a voice about which programs are most important.
She is also an advocate of online learning, intensive classes, and anything that will give her students the ability to learn on their own time.
“I hope to help the college evolve with the times because the way adults like to learn is changing,” she says. “The choices people have for how they attain their education is much broader”
Calote takes the reins from VCCCD Deputy Chancellor Mike Gregoryk who acted as president last year, and Dr. Larry A. Calderon who left the year before for Broward Community College in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. She was division dean of learning resources, interim dean of instructional operations and acting dean of off-campus programs at Valley College. Calote was happy with her position at Valley College, and wasn’t originally looking to be president of a college. She said she applied at VC not because she needed a job, but because she already loved the community.”
