All of you patriots out there can join the entire country along with soldiers overseas celebrating National Constitution Day on Friday, Sept. 16.
President George W. Bush has asked that all colleges, television and radio stations participate with a simultaneous broadcast of the Preamble to the U.S. Constitution. For information on which television and radio stations will be covering this event, visit www.constitutionday.com. On this website, there will be a downloadable film of General Tommy Franks reciting the Preamble.
Ventura College will be celebrating this day on Sept. 19, in order to have a larger student body participation. There will be voter registration forms, as well as many flyers and novelties concerning American history, particularly the Constitution. “We are all one nation, and the Constitution reflects that,” said Dora Washington, Financial Aid supervisor of Ventura College.
Founded by Louise Leigh, this special event has been practiced for eight years by presidents and Supreme Court Justices. However, on Dec. 8, 2004, this day was made public law by George Bush.
So get out those hand-held flags, slap on some “God Bless America” bumper stickers, and let your pride light up the country for the countrywide celebration of this special holiday.
